Hello everyone, long time no blog

Its been a while. Apologies. Things are a foot here at MBSM.

Georgie and Ren?e have settled in well and Helen is getting very busy at New Energy.

Our main news is that MBSM is leaving Winchester Sports and Spine after 4 years. Having developed MBSM there and learnt a lot I am now saying goodbye to Mark, Janet and the gang and want to thank them all for their support during that time. Having trained as a Yoga teacher I am planning to open up some hours a week to run classes along side my massage But will be continuing my clinic down at New Energy Fitness on Middlebrook street.

Second bit of news, and this is very exciting.

I am joining the All Sports Medicine as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing top end Sports Therapy to those in and around North Hampshire and beyond. The team consists of Orthopaedic Consultants, Sports Physios, an Orthotics Specialist and, myself as the Soft Tissue Specialist. We will be based in the newly built and incredibly swish Candover Clinic. My clinic there will be on Thursday mornings 9-1pm.

Yoga News…my yogamatt.co.uk website is under construction. Currently I am running classes at New Energy on Mondays at 6.30pm and Weds at the driving range in Eastleigh at 7pm. I am looking at starting new classes in Winchester soon.

Happy Holiday season….more News to follow soon

Up-Facing Dog

Up-Facing Dog

Hello everyone it has been a while. I have just spent the last 3 months training to be a Sun Power Yoga teacher, teaching a style of Hatha yoga based on Sivananda, Astanga and Flow Yoga. It is powerful yet relaxing, working all muscle groups and stretching your connective tissue to create balance throughout the body.

I will be using this Yoga to improve my rehabilitation services and teaching Yoga courses, 1 on 1 sessions and drop in sessions in Alresford and Winchester starting in April.

The sessions are suited to beginners and intermediate levels and should appeal to those who want to learn more about how their bodies work and become more flexible to help with your running, rugby, cycling, football, martial arts, dancing, tennis or any sport really! It can help those who suffer from anxiety, insomnia and mild depression and is designed to work your body but also relax you by linking the mind and the body with the Breath!

Give me a call for more details. Courses starting in April and May at the Studio in Alresford, Tuesdays 11.30 – 12.30 and Saturday mornings 10am – 11.30am.

Tel 07887791423

I will also will be providing a Myofascial massage service designed specifically to help you improve your Yoga. Let me know if you are interested.

January 2014

Firstly apologies for not blogging recently. Christmas, New year and, so far, January have been hectic for me with all sorts going on at my clinics but mainly because I am currently undergoing intensive Yoga Teacher training with Sun Power Yoga. This course will qualify me to teach Sun Power yoga/Classical Hatha Yoga internationally in gyms, schools, hospitals and similar. So far it has been very hard with a lot of work but I have now settled into the routine and am managing the work load reasonably well.

I want to combine Yoga teaching and Remedial Massage together and offer a specially tailored massage to Yogis, Martial Artists and Pilates students to help them achieve their physical goals. i will work with them in pose or dynamically with their movements to free congested tissue and increase range of movement in their chosen discipline. I already use Yoga as a method of rehabilitation, uniting the breath with stretches and isometric contractions for strength with great result. Soon i will step this up.

I am also looking for willing volunteers to be my first yoga class. i need to get teaching hours and so will be offering Yoga sessions both classes and privately for a fraction of the full final price. if interested please contact me via email.

Finally we re offering 40% off for Sports and Remedial or Swedish Massage at Winchester Sports and Spine (SO22 5DD) Tel. 01962843242. The massage will be 1 hour long and with Georgie Revill our new therapist. She works on Wednesday mornings and Thursdays. there is a voucher in the Observer free newspaper available around Winchester over the next 3 weeks. Bring a voucher along and present it to Georgie or quote GEORGIE14 to reception when booking. Offer is for new patients only and ends February 28th 2014. offer is NOT for existing customers and we reserve the right to refuse business at our personal discretion without explanation.

We look forward to seeing you throughout Jan and Feb.

Come and do Yoga. I will set up classes to suit according to the most popular times for clients.

All the best

Matt’s Blog for November

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all enjoying Bonfires and Fireworks. Wrapping up warm for the cold weather? Notice that when you get colder you may hunch your shoulders, then they start aching. Fend that aching off by rolling your shoulders backwards, relaxing them back and down, gently mobilising your neck muscles and lifting your breast-bone (sternum).

If you are finding this hard, give us a call and we’ll reduce the tension in those upper trapezius muscles and then show you more things you can do to help.

Just like to thank Georgie Revill my new associate at Winchester Sports and Spine for her effort and commitment. She has really done well and business for her has really taken off.

I’d also like to welcome Helen Ashcroft to the team. Helen is an old friend of mine. An ex-Community Police Support Officer and an accomplished gym and spin instructor, Helen is also doing Swedish and Sports Massage with me at New Energy Fitness on Middlebrook Street, Winchester. Come on down to the gym, have a look around at what New Energy can offer you and book in for a massage in with either Helen or myself and experience the beautiful, ye-olde-Winchester treatment rooms.

Finally I will have news for you soon on another fantastic service we will be offering you very soon to help you become flexible, strong and healthy in the body and mind.

News for September

Hello to everyone. Welcome to MBSM in September.

I hope you are all well, out and about, living the dream!

We have had a busy August and can’t believe the amount of people having Sports Massage regularly now. Very happy to see that the benefits are being noticed by more people each month.

A few things will be changed on the web site soon. Bear with us while we do this. Meanwhile our latest updates can be found here on the blog.

First, I am sad to say I will no longer be a member of the Sports Massage Association. I have been a member for 3 years but have decided that membership of my main governing body, the ISRM is sufficient for me so have cancelled my SMA membership as of 6-9-13. My old brochures advertise my membership and these are still in circulation. The SMA know this and understand and I will have new brochures printed very soon.

HOURS. I am changing my hours a little.

“Throughout my life I have always enjoyed sport, whether participating or volunteering. I have also always enjoyed helping others. This combined meant once I started my Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy course I automatically knew this was the career path I wanted to take. Since being able to combine the passion of being involved in sport and also being able to help those that participate in sport has given me great satisfaction.

Since completing my course I have been employed by Aldershot Town Football Club as a Sports Masseuse and have also volunteered at the PPP event in Winchester. This year I am attending the University of Westminster to complete my Level 5 in Sports Massage Therapy and am also completing a course in Kinesiology Taping as I look to further develop my career.

I currently live in Lindford with my Mum, Step Dad and our golden Labrador. I can?t wait to become part of the clinics team and be able to assist in developing client?s knowledge of Sports Massage through my own knowledge and experiences. I also look forward to helping clients physically through manipulation and deep tissue massage of muscles”.

August 2013 Blog

Hello everyone. Welcome back from holiday if you have been away.

Well, after an eventful summer, having moved house and taken a road trip to the South of France and back I am now back and working hard at my clinics.

This is a perfect opportunity to let you know of some changes.

I have decided to stop working from my Chandlers Ford clinic at the Wessex Nuffield hospital. I have worked there for two years now and due to the extensive building work and changes they have made it makes sense to concentrate my time and efforts at my Winchester clinics.

My hours are about to change. New hours as of September 1st 2013 are as follows.

Winchester Sports and Spine

Mondays 1pm – 7pm

Wednesdays and Fridays 9am -3pm

Alternate Saturday mornings 9am-12pm

New Energy Gym

Tuesdays and Thursdays 2-8pm

Occasional Saturday mornings or afternoons.

I will also be introducing some new team members very soon who will be offering further hours and an alternative to myself at each clinic.

That’s all for now folks.

See you soon.
